Title: Clinical Coordinator/ Counselor

Collins Center is a sexual assault response and advocacy organization that serves Rockingham County and the City of Harrisonburg.  Our mission is to eliminate sexual violence and its impact in our community. We pursue our mission by offering support to victims, survivors, and their non-offending family members through many programs and services, including sexual assault crisis support and advocacy, prevention and education, and trauma-informed counseling.  The agency's nationally-accredited Child Advocacy Center (CAC) works collaboratively with community partners to provide a proactive and thorough response to child victims of abuse and their non-offending caregivers.

Job Summary:

The Clinical Coordinator/Counselor is a full-time, salaried position and an integral member of the Collins Center team. Reporting to the Associate Director, this position is responsible and accountable for the coordination of Collins Center clinical services programs, including direct short/long-term therapy and support groups.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide counseling to adult and child clients and their non-offending family members with a continuity of care from the first contact until case closure and beyond

  • Coordinate and co-facilitate support groups

  • Assist in development of new clinical programs and initiatives

  • Provide crisis services and assessments to primary and secondary victims

  • Provide on-call services to support 24-hour hotline on rotating basis

  • Oversee maintenance of therapy client files and documentation for grant reports

  • Work closely with Grants and Practice Coordinator to provide insurance billing services for long term therapy clients

  • Act as a liaison, as appropriate, between clients and allied agencies, including hospitals, law enforcement, social services, victim/witness programs and the Commonwealth Attorney’s office

  • Prepare for case review and participate in monthly MDT meetings

  • Supervise clinical interns and counselors in residency

  • Work with clinical staff to ensure ongoing skill development and access to most current information and trends in the field

  • Participate on local counseling, trauma and mental health community networks

  • Conduct telephone screening and intake procedures

  • Facilitate appropriate referrals for mental health and adjunct services

  • Provide expert witness testimony in court proceedings

  • Participate in development and implementation of trauma-related trainings for professionals

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Master’s degree in counseling or social work, licensed in the State of Virginia

  • Thorough understanding of the impact of sexual assault, victimization, trauma and trauma-informed care

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the area of child abuse, including play-based treatment modalities

  • Direct clinical experience working with children, adults and family members

  • Ability to assess clinical needs within a diverse victim/witness population and provide and/or ensure the provision of culturally-sensitive and appropriate services

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage projects and supervise supporting staff and volunteers

  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills; able to coordinate between diverse groups and individuals including partner agencies, allied professionals, stakeholders, and primary and secondary victims
